Neck pain or neck stiffness can be annoying, frustrating and debilitating, as it can also cause insomnia, headache, jaw issues and even numbness and/or pins and needles down the arms.
If the tightness of the neck and shoulder muscles keeps coming back, even after treatments, it is considered chronic. And if left untreated at a deeper level, it can evolve into more serious injuries, which is not fun.
Amongst the most common physical, mental and emotional causes of neck pain, we often see:
Physical
• Previous injury, specially whiplash
• Arthritis
• Misalignment of the cervical spine
• Cervical herniated or bulging disc
• Pelvis imbalance/tilt/rotation
• Seating at the desk most of the day
• Shoulder weakness or instability
• Poor posture
• Scoliosis
• Discopathy, slip disc, disc protusion
• Clenching of the jaw
• Digestive Issues (reflux, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea)
• Unconsious shrugging of the shoulders
• High impact cardio exercises
Mental & Emotional causes of a stiff neck
• Excessive worry
• Overthinking causing the neck to stiffen up
• Trying to control situations that are out of our control
• Underlying anger and frustration, unconsciously present
• Fear of losing a person, a job or a comfortable situation
• Excessive deadlines at work
• Rushing around not able to make time to chill
How can Massage help chronic neck pain?
Specific mobility, strenght and neurofeedback tests will be performed to determine which muscles need to be treated.
Remedial Massage will release specific deep trigger points that may be causing stiffness of your neck, increasing blood flow, flexibility and mobility between the vertebraes.
How can Kinesiology help chronic neck pain?
A thorough examination of the neurofeedback of the muscles surrounding the neck, shoulder and sometimes the pelvis, will be performed on a first visit to determine the muscles that are weak or switched off, causing imbalance and compensation due to the body having to recruit other muscles to keep functioning.
With Kinesiology, the body may also show some underlying mental and emotional stress that need attention in order to be released. In this case, acupressure, mindfulness and energy medicine may be used to help the nervous system to dissolve that stress causing the muscles to be in imbalance.
Both, Remedial Massage and Kinesiology will be combined according to your specific issues, for better effects and results.
