About 80% of population experiences back pain a some point of their lives. It can be due to a previous injury or due to chronic muscular imbalance.
In most cases back pain is manageable with the right physical activity, stretches and manual therapy. The most common is lower back problems and if left un-managed, it can cause damage to the disks in between vertebrae (which is not a happy ending).
Back pain is considered chronic when it is constant for longer than 2 months and it keeps coming back even after treatment.
Some clients who come to me start managing is with pills and anti-inflamatory pill and creams, until they realize they can’t no longer hide the pain. They come to the clinic to find some relief with the hope that it goes away indefinitely.
How can Kinesiology relief back pain?
Kinesiology sees the body as a system where each part inter relates with one another, with the aim of letting the body work optimally. It is like a big company with numerous employees, each one doing its job to keep the whole system functioning. There are operating building blocks and bricks, management, compliance, messengers all working as a team.
Due to structural imbalances, excessive stress or poor diet, the body can slow down the process of resting and repairing itself. This way organs, glands and muscles can start being overworked as well become “lazy”. For example, having a sluggish liver or kidneys can cause back pain as the muscles connected to the liver also become weak, so the muscles around it also start to compensate for this weakness.
Kinesiology aims to balance the muscles that are either over-compensating or weak as well as stimulate the organs that are under stress.
I find that 80% of my clients find substantial relief after few sessions of Remedial Massage therapy and Kinesiology combined.
What if the back pain caused by stress?
When clients come back with a re-incidence after few months I find it really helpful to explore the reasons behind that. Is the person really been able to manage it by themselves. Do they know what to do? I find that they actually know what they should be doing, however their lives don’t allow time to look after their health as they would like.
It is still their choice, but I find it important to educate of things that need to be avoided. And if they can’t avoid them, then I would explore their intrinsic motivators. That’s when the subconscious is making decisions that aren’t the best for the system.
I find that by relieving the stress around the subconscious motivators the person is more prone to self motivate and make better choices for themselves. Kinesiology help to clarify the motivators and clear emotions of frustration around pain.
What if the back pain is caused by inflammation?
Inflammation is a self defence process of the body. It means that some muscles or other tissues are under stress.
To manage the inflammatory process in a natural way I usually recommend lavender essential oil and foods that are high in antioxidants (such as green leafy vegetables and berries).
