Chronic Insomnia is a condition characterized by difficulty falling asleep and/or remaining asleep that lasts over two months.

Insomnia: Symptoms

Insomnia itself may be a symptom of an underlying medical condition. However, there are several signs and symptoms that are associated with insomnia:

  • Difficulty falling asleep at night
  • Awakening during the night or earlier than desired
  • Wake up still tired even with long hours sleep
  • Daytime fatigue or sleepiness
  • Irritability, depression or anxiety
  • Poor concentration and focus

Possible Causes of Insomnia

  • Drugs, alcohol, medication: caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, stimulants, antidepressants
  • Lifestyle, habits & environment: ‘jetleg’due to travel, job shift changes, high altitudes, , stimulant activities at night (tv, games,…)
  • Psychological issues: stress, anxiety, depression, mania, schizophrenia
  • Nutritional Deficiency: lack of important minerals, vitamins and amino acids
  • Hormones Imbalance: oestrogen, hormone shifts during menstruation
  • Other factors: Diseases, Digestive problems, genetic conditions, overactive mind, pregnancy.

Pineal Gland: Melatonin & Serotonin and Biological Rhythms

The major cause of insomnia is the failure of the body to produce sufficient amounts of melatonin. This chemical is most active in the dark, regulating our natural biological rhythms in presence of light or dark.

Melatonin is produced in the pineal gland from Serotonin – our “feel good” chemical, which is derived from Tryptophan, an amino acid found in our food.

There could be several causes for your Melatonin not being produced and used as it should. Our aim is to find out the reasons to be able to dissolve it and promote healing in a natural way as the body has the amazing ability to heal itself when we show it how.
